It is recommended to have at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day and to avoid going 2 days continuously without physical activity.
However, repeating the same kind of physical activity every day can be really mundane after some time and getting up just to exercise can be a chore. Suddenly, 30 minutes doesn’t seem short anymore and before you know it, you’re only 20 minutes in when it actually feels like an hour has passed.
I admire those with the drive and discipline to prioritise and schedule working out into their daily routine, not that I do not have the time, I do. I’m just, not as motivated. Somehow, creating a planner for leg day or arm day seems more interesting than actually going about it. Thus, it is not a sustainable one for me.
Hence, I opt for a much more sustainable one. One where I could recollect my thoughts or just absentmindedly do without realising that I have started working out which for me is walking.
Here are a few reasons why I consider that the most fun way to exercise.
1. I love long walks. It’s my special “me time”.
As mentioned before, it is the time for me to reflect and just recollect after a long day or short to clear my mind. It is therapeutic for me.
2. I can binge listen to my Playlist
I’m usually surrounded by my family or friends and the only time I get to listen to my playlist would be when I’m driving alone, which is rare, or when I’m alone, which is again rare.
I try to spend as much time as I can with my family since I’m about to start my internship soon and I know when I do begin, I may not have as much free time as I do now. In addition to that, I would be applying to another state, hence, not living at home.
3. I often break into a Dance
Well, if you’re walking and listening to good music, it won’t be long before you start moving to the beat. I find that it just lifts my mood and adds some fun to the whole walking experience.
4. It’s time for me to catch up on my Reading
I listen to a lot of audiobooks.
I used to love reading. However, gone are the days where I could just sit and read as I find that I doze of easily whenever I’m being passive.
Hence, the invention of podcasts and audiobooks have really helped and that is basically how I survived medical school.
5. I reach my daily 10,000 Steps
I love competing with my family and friends when it comes to this.
Since the initial release of the Apple Watch, me and my mom had made it a habit for us to monitor each other’s progress through the sharing feature available on the watch.
Personally, I’m naturally competitive. Thus, I won’t be able to reach my steps if I were to do isometric exercises.
Here are my few reasons why I consider walking & dancing as the most fun way to exercise.
