Blogging is an addiction.

As far as I can remember, I loved writing since I was in Primary School (Elementary School) and I’ve always aspire to be a Journalist.

I guess, part of my internal journalism was contributed by watching Gilmore Girls one too many times. I’ve watched all the seasons and yet, after I am done with Season 7, I find myself going back to Season 1 again. It’s just one of those feel good series which made up my childhood, teenage life and university journey.

I dabbled into writing short stories and articles in elementary school partly because I love reading. Most of the books I read at that time were fictional, written by Enid Blyton. If you’ve read her books, you know that her writing definitely takes you on a journey, as far as your imagination stretches. It was then followed by the Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling (I was determined that I would receive my Hogwarts Letter at the age of 10) and finally into non-fictional books to this day.

I had these vivid ideas and stories in my head and I was determined to get it onto paper. Hence, becoming a published author was another goal of mine then.

However, as time went on, I grew up and hopefully matured, my interest in fictional slowly diminished and I find myself more interested in non-fictional articles and books, especially on health and self-development. These seem to be the hype nowadays but they’re really good too.

Writing was my mode of escaping on bad days and somehow just sitting down and letting my imagination flow allowed me to escape the physical confinements of the walls around me. I was on a journey, a path, written by Me.

Thus, when blogging became a thing, I started my very first blog on Blogger. However, I was more focused on getting monetised and earning money, not prioritising my love for writing that as I entered my first year in University, it fell away. That and well, I prioritised other things more.

Looking back, I wished that I had started sooner. The thought of having my very own website or blog had always been at the back of my mind and in the final year of University, I was determined to have one, even if I may not be so consistent or active. Thus, the creation of this website / blog.

Nevertheless, I did my research on this for guidance on building a proper blog down to the blogging platform. Having learnt a little bit about coding but forgetting it along the way, I decided not to have one self-hosted as I knew in the upcoming months and years, I may not be able to manage which further motivated me to create one on WordPress.

Recently, I graduated from MAHSA University with a Bachelor in Medicine & Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS), so yes, I’m a Doctor (on paper). While awaiting my placement for internship into the government sector, I decided to take the plunge and start this website / blog.

1. What Niche To Write?

Niche is one of the reasons why most of my projects fell away halfway or never took off.

However, I find myself taking joy in explaining the pathology of certain disease and why is it necessary to go for treatment to those who are curious and not in the medical field. Hence, I decided why not write about something medically related?

I probably won’t write about pathology of the diseases, there are too many websites for it now. Instead I’ll write my thoughts and advices, my journey.

Hence, I find most of it falling into the medical school category.

Instead of finding a suitable niche, start writing and see if they can fall into a particular group or niche.

2. How Often Should I Write? What If I Miss Writing A Post?

As I mentioned earlier, I take joy in writing, my ideas usually come like a binge. Hence, I would list down the topics the moment I get an idea and write whenever I have the time.

There are days when I do get my writer’s block. That’s when these saved ideas come in to the rescue.

Read more on how I overcome my writer’s block and always having content to post consistently.

However, at the moment, I am writing as many articles as I can and have them scheduled to be posted as I know for the upcoming months as I enter my internship period, I may not have the time to sit and write or edit as I please but I do want my website / blog to remain active.

Thus, this can be a good idea for you if you come in with a rapid bursts of ideas on what to write.

3. What If It’s Too Late To Start A Blog?

It’s never too late. Especially if you have the passion and drive for it.

If writing is what you love, just start. It is true that there are one too many websites or blogs with similar content and it can be rather competitive getting your ideas out there.

However, every website / blog is unique. At least that’s what I feel and many people still resort to googling answers to questions that they have. Thus, write about what you would like to share or advice on. Leave it up to your originality, you have autonomy over the content on your blog / website.

Here are just a few reasons why 2023 is still a good time to start a blog. It’s not too late. Competition of your content is high. However, if you love writing, as I do, take the plunge and commit to it.

Now is a good time as any.
