Almost everyone has some form of social media today. It is a very different generation.
Consider this, even if one does not have an account in the mainstream or popular social medias such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, they would at least have an email account, be it gmail, yahoo or outlook.
Back in high school, I remembered there was such thing as hotmail, myspace and friendster.
“Social media are interactive technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, interests, and other forms of expression through virtual communities and networks.” – Wikipedia
Personally, I’m not a big fan of social media. At least the ones that really require me to interact with others such as Instagram and Facebook. I rarely open it for my personal use. The most I would open would be Instagram if somebody sends me a DM or tags me in their stories. I would then repost or upload a picture for my story and then that’s it. I rarely scroll through.
However, social media has its advantages and disadvantages especially when you have your own business or brand. Here are a couple of ways I utilise social media which is mainly for my blog.

1. YouTube
If I had to rank any applications on my phone that I utilise the MOST, it would be YouTube.
I have a YouTube Channel, The Theoretical Doctor.
It is mainly an education channel where I upload Biology videos and some videos on a crash course called the MBBS FlashDash which is aimed for final year medical students who will be sitting for their finals soon.
I love teaching and since I have some free time on my hands while waiting for my internship, I’ve decided to spend time doing something I love.
Occasionally, I would upload vlogs, that’s if I do vlog while I travel.
Besides that, I would usually be on YouTube listening to music mainly or occasionally watching videos on self-development on certain channels or even listening to audiobooks.
There is always something playing in the background during my waking hours and it’s usually something from YouTube.

2. Instagram
I have an Instagram account, for my personal use as well as for my blog and channel.
It is mainly my way of staying in touch with my batch mates from university or friends from high school. I don’t really post much, occasionally I would go crazy and spam my stories if I happened to be out with my friends or travelling. Otherwise, I’m rarely on Instagram and I seldom check it.
That is until someone tags me in their stories.
For my blog and YouTube channel, It is my way of reaching out and hopefully getting noticed, though I have a small amount of following. Usually, when I upload a Short on YouTube, it will be uploaded on my Instagram account as well or if I were to upload a new video on YouTube.

3. Pinterest
Pinterest is a form of search engine. At least it was for me back when I was studying. I would go on Pinterest, looking up cardigan designs for me to crochet or recipes and sometimes just simple diagrams to aid me in my studies.
Nowadays, every time an article is uploaded on my website, I would post it on Pinterest as well. Besides that, I design flashcards for those who watches my videos on YouTube to refer back and follow along. Uploading them on a drive to be downloaded just does not seem feasible in the long run. Hence, the creation of this blog as well.
Thus, they are able to download notes or flashcards from my Pinterest account or on this platform.

4. Facebook
I recently created a Facebook page.
Just like Instagram, my main aim is to reach out to a wider audience. I have a small amount of followers but hopefully, as my channel grows so will my page, although my main focus is not there.
As you can see, my use of social media is very limited. I’m not really one who is good in utilising social media to the fullest but it is definitely useful if you do know how to utilise it fully.
Do leave me some suggestions on how to improve my usage, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Till then, I hope you’re doing well and have a lovely day!

Great article. I agree with you on social media. I use it for learning and sharing, not for gossiping and comparing.
