I would say last Sunday during the weekly Sunday Service at church but I think the question prompts for something more than that.
The last live performance I saw or one that I would consider a real event that I attended was 8 years ago when I attended a live symphony orchestra played by the National Symphony Orchestra in Johor Bahru with my best friend, Evina.
Every year, there would be an Arts Festival organised in my hometown, Johor Bahru and despite it being showcased every year, I have yet to attend even one of the events organised. What interest me in particular was the Live Symphony Orchestra.
I love symphony. My love towards symphony first started when I came across this particular radio station Symphony 92.4FM in the car while scanning for various radio stations. My parents do not share their love towards symphony and personally being a person who loves rock music, took an unexpected liking towards classical music.
I used to listen to various music while I was doing my revision. Somehow, it allows me to enter deep work and maintain my concentration all throughout. It had to be rock genre of course or country music or just some good old classic hits. However, little did I know that I would take a liking towards classical music and in addition to that, it helped me maintain my concentration while I was studying. I definitely did not feel sleepy. Instead, I was energised.
It was then, I would go on YouTube to play some random playlist as I was not familiar with the artists. Till today, I might recognise some of the names but I do not remember the titles or certain composers but I would definitely remember the music if it were being played. That’s just me and my poor memory. I have trouble retaining information in various aspects of my life.
Back to the live performance, the Johor Festival of Arts was due to showcase again during that year and as usual, there were various events being held all throughout Johor Bahru. However, one particular event caught my attention and it was the Live Symphony Orchestra, live for one night only at the Sultan Ibrahim Building, Johor Bahru. Not inside the building of course but within the vicinity.
I just simply had to go and tickets were only RM10 for students! I simply could not miss the opportunity and hence, I approached my dear friend Evina and prompted her to go. She agreed and off we went. I remembered dressing in this silk knee length dress like as if I was about to attend a grand function. I was just simply excited and we reached there early enough that we managed to grab the first row of seats.
Throughout the whole performance, I was simply transfixed and at awe at their performance and the music. I was in the moment as most of the time, I was living in this perceive imaginary world in my head. I remembered tearing up at various parts as the music filled me and swept me that my friend had to hold me down from getting up. It was simply beautiful.
I remembered heading home after that with a sense of peace and comfort and had a good night’s rest. It was the first and last time that I have ever attended such event.
