To cut to the chase, Jetpack App, Canva and Notes. Literally.

I divulged into the world of blogging in 2017 on Blogspot with my first blog, www.avageraldine.blogspot.com (By_AvaGeraldine).

The blog is still up and running but it has lay dormant for many years now and I have since then moved to a different website and platform such as this one.

Nevertheless, I am still relatively a newbie and as you can see, my website has many minimal features which I have yet to learn and use to my advantage.

All aesthetics aside, I love to write. That is me. That as well as teaching, on my YouTube Channel, The Theoretical Doctor. Since I have just recently graduated and awaiting my place in housemanship or internship, I have ample of time on my hands to curate and draft as many articles as I possibly can and schedule the release way ahead of me.

So, more writing? Yay!

However, who is going to read all my thoughts? Not that I am forcing you to…

This is just a form of therapy for me. I decided to build my website, The Theoretical Doctor where I am able to post articles as well as share my notes from my videos.

As a newbie in blogging, there seems to be a mountain of things to learn. First of all, navigating your way through your own website, arranging and designing as such. Is it necessary to know so much at once?

There is a mountain of learning to be done.

It would be good to know and learn in the long run especially if you are interested in creating a professional website. However, as a newbie blogger, I am here to shed a few tips on how I manage my website and the applications I use on the side to aid me.

Jetpack App

1. JETPACK APP

If I am on the laptop, I skip downloading the application and just proceed to www.wordpress.com and write a blog post.

From there, I will draft and and schedule articles as well as monitor the upcoming blogposts.

However, I am a person who is on the more a lot. I rarely have the chance to just be still and when I’m finally done with the required tasks for the day at home, we are going out again and probably for the whole day.

Sometimes, we may even be out travelling. Thus, my iPad or phone comes in handy. Personally, I prefer to work on my laptop. However, it would not be practical for me to bring my laptop with me all the time and an iPad or phone is just much smaller and lighter.

Hence, the Jetpack App comes in handy.

It is highly similar to wordpress.com on the laptop. Thus, while I’m on the move, I usually draft out my articles and add in any blocks for pictures which will be added on right before scheduling since I make it a point to write an article everyday and for most of the time, in my trusted tiny notebook and a pencil which I carry around with me all the time.

I mean, you never know when inspiration just hits!

Canva App

2. CANVA

After you have drafted out your articles or blogposts and arranged them in the way that you want, you need some pictures.

For me, I love to design a simple picture with the title and my website at the beginning of my posts. It adds a touch of something special, like a cover of a book. Plus, I could share it on Pinterest.

I have used Canva for many years from simple photo design to thumbnails for my YouTube Channel, designing my notes, designing my slides as well as designing two Yearbooks and multiple articles for while I was in the Faculty’s Magazine Team, Under The White Coat, back in medical school.

Canva is simple and extremely user friendly. Granted, there are many after applications much better at catering to photo editing. However, to this day, I do not know how to use Adobe Photoshop. Thus, if you are good at using them, then by all means, continue to do so.

Besides that, Canva is also a free platform. Canva Pro users are able to access more elements, designs and layouts on Canva. However, you are not keen on subscribing for Canva Pro, Canva still has a lot to offer and you can always design it from scratch.

I am not a Canva Pro user and all my designs on this website and Pinterest had been from utilising the Free Features offered by them.

Notes App

3. NOTES

The Notes App available on Apple devices.

Personally, I prefer to write in my trusted A6 Ring Notebook with a pencil. I have multiple books like this and after I have written in them, I would draft it out directly to WordPress.

However, there are days that I may forget to bring an extra empty notebook and I have exhausted all the pages in the one I am carrying at that time. Thus, I would turn to Notes and continue to type out my articles.

For some reason, I do not prefer to write a new blog post directly on WordPress, although it saves time. Typing out my ideas directly onto WordPress somehow hinders my flow of thoughts and writing. Thus, I need to draft them elsewhere first before jumping onto WordPress.

Thus, my organisation flow in terms of my posts on this website would be:

  • Notes (For writing articles)
  • Jetpack App (For drafting out my posts & scheduling them)
  • Canva (For my designs)

Hope this helps!
