My perseverance.
I am the kind of person who complains A LOT. Naturally, we as humans tend to complain, it is simply our natural way of explaining our frustrations or a way of venting out.
However, I tend to complain about every single thing under the sun. Well, almost everything.
Over the years, I realised that, it is a rather negative trait and rather than focusing solely on the negative aspect of the situation, I try to view the positive side of it a.k.a viewing the glass as half full.
It is definitely a challenge but it becomes second nature over time, which is to celebrate the good side of it and to give thanks first.
Nevertheless, I still complain.
Albeit all the complaints, frustrations and challenges that I had to face which without a doubt had me at the brink of throwing in the towel, be it in medical school or as a junior doctor, I stayed on, or in terms of interpersonal relationships among friends or simply dealing with difficult colleagues or superiors.
I persevered.
Thank goodness I did because had I thrown in the towel early on, I wouldn’t be able to learn, to adapt and to face my challenges. Looking back, it is the learning process that is hard. It is definitely a journey and yet I stayed on and persevered.
It was indubitably difficult for me mentally and physically. It mentally drains me and in addition to being tired from a day’s work, it further depletes my battery, stamina and the will to continue the following day.
However, each person’s experience varies and do I condone bullying and neglecting self-care?
Definitely not.
As I mentioned, everybody’s experience varies and I am merely thankful that I managed to pull through as far simply because I am a rather stubborn person as well. Perhaps it is also due to my internal ego.
Does that mean that the journey gets easier henceforth? Nope, it is simply my mode of coping mechanism. There is yet so much to know and learn everyday.
Thus, if there is one attribute about myself that I am rather thankful and admire about, it is my perseverance.
