Physically an adult, mentally still a kid. Well, aren’t we all?
My definition of “being a kid” is one who is curious about everything and anything under the sun, the never ending “why?”, the fearlessness in their eyes, being mischievous but also with a heart so pure and full of love.
That is my personal opinion on what a kid is. The willingness to take risks, to know that you have someone, parents, guardians, siblings or family members to fall back to or to reach out should you need help.
However, as you grow older, we learn to take on responsibilities, starting from the small, menial tasks as a kid such as keeping our things after playing to doing the dishes, house chores and eventually school work, homework and well, work in general.
The responsibilities grow and so does the stress on our shoulders. For most of us, it can be overwhelming while for some, they are able to adapt quickly.
However, as we learn how to properly manage our time, finances as well as to take care of our family members and ourselves, sometimes, just sometimes, it would be good to run back to the safe and loving arms of our parents or guardians or siblings.
At least that’s what I find myself pondering at times. To return home after school, being picked up by my mother or father, followed by lunch or to spend time at the mall with my mom and complaining about my day because somebody did me wrong.
Nowadays, whenever I call my parents, which I try to do on a daily basis at least, just to check in on them, I still feel like a kid being supported by my parents. When in actual fact, I’m living far from them, cooking for myself, cleaning up after myself and being financially independent while paying off my student loans, being financially independent and saving at the same time.
I know I’m blessed to have my parents’ moral support which I am thankful for every single day.
Thus, maybe that’s why I still feel like a kid. I feel at home, I feel that I’m being supported, no doubt emotionally, which I am more than grateful for, which allows me to be curious about almost every thing at work that I go about asking even the simplest silliest things.
I may be 26 now, but probably, eternally, still a kid at heart. Something which I doubt is due to change anytime soon.
