Returning To Work On A Monday After The Longest Time

A short reflection regarding my view of returning back to work on a Monday.

Today marks Day 390 of my housemanship journey. I am currently in my fourth posting, Surgery.

Somehow throughout my journey as a House Officer, I have been “blessed” enough to have an “off day” on a Monday or to be on “post night” duty. Thus, avoiding the Monday Blues hassle and return to work, tackling stuffs that were held back and not done since the previous week, attending to joblists which were pushed during the weekends.

However, it is in the Surgery Posting that my health decided to catch up on me and forced me to rest for four days consecutively which consisted of 3 medical leaves and an off day.

In the Surgical posting, we are required to complete a total of 14 days compulsory tagging in which we had to work till 10pm and since we are in Surgical posting, that means we had to show up at work rather early since grand rounds begin early as well.

Entering this posting as a Fourth Poster (Senior Poster), we are given special night shifts. However, since we are given as such, it is not counted into our duration of 14 days tagging. As a result, out tagging days are extended.

Which in my case, it did due to my consecutive sick leaves from work. Our schedules are released on a weekly basis and for this week, I am assigned the morning duty in ward as a tagger as well, on a Monday with less manpower.

As if things could not get more stressful and hectic.

Thankfully, I have a lovely team of medical officers on duty tomorrow.

Well, thank God for that.

It has been a while since I started back at work on a Monday and this brings me back to the days when I was at school or university and I would line my clothes for preparation for the week, pack my bags, clean my room and just pretty much straighten out as much as I can.

A part of me feels hopeful and looking forward for work tomorrow.

Somehow, deep inside, things will work out just fine tomorrow.

I hope so.

I hope you do have a lovely week ahead!
