One small improvement I would like to make in my life. Article written by Dr. Jewel Nambiar, The Theoretical Doctor.

Procrastination.

I’d like to think that I’ve come a long way in terms of procrastination. Usually, when I’m trusted with a task, I would ensure that it is the first thing I would do or at least, I would do it immediately as soon as I get the chance.

Previously, I used to be even worse. I would put off the task at hand till the final hour then go on a major adrenaline rush trying to complete it. I’d like to think that I work best under pressure because at the end of the day, the task is still being completed. However, it is not sustainable.

The truth behind this behaviour that has become a habit stems from laziness. I would deny myself by prioritising other tasks at hand. However, the reality is that I do not have the interest at all to even begin.

I’ve tried to change that of course by initially making it a habit for me to immediately complete the task at hand. Initially, it was hard but eventually, it became a habit and before I knew it, it is just a part of who I am.

However, I still struggle with procrastination. For example, waking up in the morning. Waking up is easy because before going to bed, I would off my mobile data as well as the wifi connection and place my phone at the other end of the room. Thus, when my alarm goes off, I am forced to get out of bed. That’s the easy part.

The difficult part comes next which is forcing myself to change and move to begin my day and honestly my body just doesn’t feel up for it. I would not fall back to sleep but I could scroll endlessly on the internet and read various articles. Before I know it, an hour or two has passed and well, that’s just time wasted.

Similarly, when I am about to go to bed, before switching off my mobile data and wifi connection, I would scroll endlessly on the internet browser before finally deciding to call it a day.

In addition to that is when I’m done with a particular task and I decide to take a break. A 5 to 10 minute break could translate into an hour long or two and as I mentioned before, these are all just time wasted.

Hence, if there is one small improvement that I would like to inculcate into my life, it is this, which is to work on me improving my self discipline and to procrastinate less.

  1. Same problem! And the problem is the bed felt the most comfortable in the morning!

And there is always a reason to procrastinate more! I even go super hardworking to calculate how much time I can procrastinate before I really need to rush😟

    1. Talk about setting aside time to procrastinate! xD

I totally get this, sometimes I question myself on why do I even bother getting up much earlier if I’m still gonna rush and be late xD
