I. Love. Writing.

If you do too, you would understand that once you start, you feel like you could go on and on. You may be out and there are times when you would crave for some “me time” and just sit and write. Well, at least for me, it’s like that. To sit somewhere peaceful and quiet, surrounded by nature, good weather and a cup of tea or coffee and just write.

It’s almost like an addiction?

The nice part about it is that writing allows my thoughts to just flow, it’s almost like journalling, perhaps it is the same thing to me since I mainly write about my thoughts and experiences.

It’s hard for me to distinguish between these two since I practically write on a daily basis, at least I try to.

However, there are some days when I haven’t the faintest idea on a topic or what to write. My mind is just that. Blank. Hence, when I started this website / blog, I knew that I had to overcome my habit of procrastination and start planning.

Why procrastination?

I had a rough idea of the amount of posts per week that I would like to upload.

Currently, I post 3 times a week on this website, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Sundays would be special since I post articles like this whereas on Tuesdays and Thursdays are notes from videos posted on my YouTube Channel, The Theoretical Doctor.

I can’t be preparing my content last minute and upload a sub-par article. I do not want to write just to make it in time for my post. I wanted to write because I wanted to and take my time in letting my ideas flow.

But, what do you do to prevent writer’s block?

As we know, there are days when our minds are just that… blank.

Hence, here are some tips on how I find content ideas for my blog to keep myself ahead and ensuring that I release a post consistently.

1. STICK Within Your NICHE

What is your niche?

Do you have one or are you still figuring it out?

My niche is mainly education (STPM Biology & MBBS in particular) as well as medical or medical school related experiences.

Hence, when it comes to writing a free form article like this, I try to answer questions in relation to my niche.

If I’m out of ideas, I tend to write articles similar to what is catered to the general population on the internet but change it slightly in such a way that is suited for my niche, i.e medical students or medical school.

2. When You Have A Topic Idea, WRITE IT Down IMMEDIATELY

My ideas usually come during the oddest times.

I might be cooking, or talking to someone, out shopping, driving, showering or about to sleep.

Sometimes, as I’m writing out an article is when the topic idea pops up.

Hence, I write it down in my Notes application in my phone or on a piece of paper. By doing this, I have a vast array of topics to choose from and write about which usually saves me time in having to think of a topic every morning since I write best, first thing in the morning.

3. Write MORE

“The more you write, the more your ideas will come”.

It’s true. I hold steadfast to this hypothesis.

I have made it a habit to write consistently every morning. Sure, there are days when I do not write but on most days, I do and the more I write, the more ideas I get on what to write next.

As I mentioned earlier, my ideas comes during the oddest times. I find that as I’m writing out an article for a particular topic, I find myself asking questions followed by providing the answers.

Voila. Another article done!

4. Research For Topics On YouTube, Quora & Reddit

Or any social media platform for that matter.

I do not believe that you would be copying another person’s idea when you were to gain insight on the topics to write about.

After all, you would be writing out your opinion and thoughts based on YOUR originality. You would not be making one identical to what was previously posted.

There are always people asking questions on Quora and Reddit and if it is not answered properly or left unanswered and it suits your niche, take up the opportunity to research more on it to write an article or blog post.

These are my few handful tips that I personally use when it comes to writing, scheduling and posting articles on my website.

It is without a doubt difficult on days where you just feel “dry” and uninspired to write because you are out of ideas.

However, it is during those days that you need to constant exert yourself to just show up and write until it becomes second nature.

I sincerely hope that you find some value out of this.
